KeymasterTo get the best results from your Fluke Networks MicroScanner Cable and PoE Tester, follow these practical tips across setup, operation, and interpretation. This will ensure accurate testing of copper cabling, PoE status, and network connectivity.

✅ 1. Understand What You’re Testing
The MicroScanner can:
• Detect PoE presence and class (0–8)
• Display cable length, wiremap (opens/shorts/splits)
• Identify network services (10/100/1000BASE-T, VoIP, etc.)
• Trace cables using tone generator (IntelliTone™ & analog)
• Locate cable faults and verify patch panels or outlets

✅ 2. Use the Right Testing Mode
Press the MODE button to toggle through modes:
Mode Use it for…
Cable Wiremap, cable length, faults, ID
PoE Detect voltage, PoE class, and switch type

✅ 3. Cable Testing – Best Practices
• Disconnect both ends of the cable if you’re testing wiremap or length (unless you’re measuring with a remote).
• Use a known good Nominal Velocity of Propagation (NVP) setting (default is 72%). You can adjust it:
o Hold PORT + Up Arrow to access NVP settings.
• Watch out for:
o Open: Disconnected wire(s)
o Short: Two or more wires connected together
o Split pair: Pairs wired incorrectly but continuity still shows
📌 Tip: For best accuracy on cable length, always test with one end disconnected or with the included remote ID.

• Plug into a live PoE port (switch or injector).
• MicroScanner will display:
o PoE class (0–8)
o Voltage and available power
o Type of PoE standard: IEEE 802.3af/at/bt

📌 Tip: Use this before plugging in a device like a VoIP phone or camera to avoid underpowering it.
